Greg Mitchell for Johnson County
Board of County Commissioners

WHY I'M RUNNING
It’s all about experience and temperament.

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has a long history of making decisions with purpose, intentionality and a mission to do right for the community utilizing relevant experience combined with fresh perspectives. Johnson County isn’t perfect but its great, and it can be improved upon. Its greatness and its ability to improve are owed primarily for the citizens that make this county what it is. But it also takes great county staff and BOCC members who have earned life and business experiences combined with fresh perspectives.

Here are the qualities, I will bring to the BOCC:
-
Strong business background, having held executive leadership positions in hospitals focused supply chain;
-
Background in information technologies, purchasing, contracting, and finance.
-
Board experience on industry-related association boards and public governing boards including WaterOne and Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees;
-
Perspectives gained through extensive business and governing-board experience while coming to BOCC with a new set of eyes – making those perspectives FRESH PERSPECTIVES;
-
Strong history of collaboration mixed with a curious temperament allowing me to work with staff and other board members to resolve problems.
-
Appreciation of the unique role of governance which requires a humility to acknowledge that professional staff are experts while the role of the BOCC is to assure success and make certain the county is moving forward as Johnson County strives to maintain its standing as the best place to live, work, and thrive.
I believe each BOCC district, including District 5, requires an update, a refresh, on a periodic basis. Ideally a commissioner will possess varied and robust experiences in other endeavors – but no more than twelve years of experience on the BOCC. This assures that each commissioner has the right mix of wisdom and experience combined with fresh perspectives.

Goals:
-
Assure that Johnson County maintains and develops resilient infrastructure that can support the needs of the county and into the future.
-
Work to make Johnson County affordable for young people who grew-up here and would like to remain and contribute and for older adults who had spent their lives building the County we know today.
-
Focus on smart services for the community where county programs not only address the varied needs citizens but additionally have a return on investment for tax payers.
-
Support Economic Development/Workforce Development projects that strengthen the community and will maintain Johnson Counties status as the place to live, work and thrive well into the future.
DISTRICT 5

Registered voters who live in Johnson County District 5, can vote for me. The county districts are not perfectly symmetrical in shape, but generally, the district is:
From 87th Street to the North to 103rd Street to the South between Woodland Drive to the West and Quivira Road to the East.
And from 103rd to the North and 175th Street to the South between Ridgeview Road to the West and Pflumm Road to the East.
Of course, this is a rough description of the district; to confirm, you can check your voter registration and access district information at www.vote411.org or at www.ksvotes.org.
